Warm sea, mild climate and rich history have always attracted people to have a rest in our city. Sevastopol has a big potential for the development of tourism: heroic history, beauty of nature, mountains, sea and the richest cultural heritage. There are 10 hotels, 42 rest bases, 3 car campings, 14 health camps for children, 4 sanatoriums, 4 sanatory complexes already function in the city today. Over 12 thousand people can have a rest here. Besides, there are 4 yacht-clubs in the city and 5 passenger motor-ships work in international lines. Balaklava - unique natural corner of Ukraine – has a plenty of possibilities of its reconstruction as a resort. Natural climatic conditions, advantageous geographical position, favourable medicinal climate, vast areas, unused lands and human resources, rich historial past, presence of naval, aviation, railway and car communications, make it possible to develop all types of tourism in Balaklava. Taking into consideration the national historical interest of foreigners from near and far countries in Sevastopol city and Balaklava, its advantageous geographical position on crossing roads from Europe to Asia, it is possible to combine business contacts with the active rest. Thousands of foreign tourists from all over the world visit Sevastopol anually. Testing halls of wine-growing agricultural enterprises producing juice, wine and champagne are especially liked by them. The city is obviously destined to become a big center of ‘religious tourism’. Sevastopol is situated on the crossing of Christianity and Muslim, the core of centuries – old Western and Eastern cultures; the baptising of Rus has began here. Sevastopol tourist image has greatly improved because of reconstruction of st. Prince Vladimir’s cathedral in Khersonesus.
In 2002 165,8 thousand tourists and 173 thousand excursionists were serviced, which is 6% more than in 2001. The volume of provided services increased to 14% and estimated at 87 mil. hryvnias.
