The larger part of Ukrainian fishing, transport and refrigerated fleet as well as the research ships are based on in Sevastopol, ship-repairing and radioelectronics industries are highly developed as well as agribusiness and construction industry. More than 10 thousand enterprises of different kinds and forms of property operate in the administrative borders of the city. The industry of the city is represented, in particular, by quite number of the large industrial enterprises of the fishing and fish-processing industry.
All the marine refrigerated fleet of Ukraine is based on in Sevastopol and it makes up 4% of the world refrigerated fleet.
The ship-repairing facilities in the city are represented by six factories for repairing of ships of any type and class. The shipbuilders and shiprepairers of Sevastopol have considerable experience in repairing ships from the different countries of the world.
The remarkable role in the economics of the region belongs to Balaklava mine department where they output the flux lime-stones for the needs of the metal industry. Some raw material that does not meet the requirements of the metallurgy is used for the production of the building.
The light industry of the region is presented by the clothes and knitted-goods factories. The most known of them is the clothes factory named after N. Onilova that is specialized in the production of dresses and suits.
The agriculture of the region is specialized in grape-growing, gardening and vegetable-growing. Sevastopol is one of the most important grape-growing and wine-making regions of Ukraine. The total area of the vineyards is about 8 thousand hectares. Sevastopol grapes are distinguished with their high quality, a variety of their kinds, elite grape kinds are cultivated there, they are the technical grapes and excellent table kinds.The advanced technological and production base in wine-making and the proved experience make the town a supplier of the best wines and champagne in Ukraine. The leading producers in national wine-making are Inkerman vintage wines winery, agrofirm “Zolotaya Balka” and Sevastopol winery.
The amount of products and services produced during January-October 2003 by industrial enterprises of the city is estimated at 504879,7 thousand hryvnias, which is 6,1% more than the amount of products and services produced during the same period of previous year. The amount of products produced by enterprises with their own balance is estimated at 474707,8 thousand hryvnias, which is 94% of the overall volume of production.
